The Old Yard

Text size

A man studies a faded photograph in a neglected yard as an older man stands near a gate and a tire-swing hangs in the background.

Julian went to the old address in the city. The building was old and partly abandoned. In the yard, he saw clear signs that a child had once lived there, even though it was now empty. There were also traces of a tire swing.

At the address, Julian found an old family photo and record. The record showed that the child had used another name. He began to understand that the child may have been hidden there for safety.

An older man named Eli noticed Julian at the house. Eli said that he had known the child and had kept some of the memories safe. He also confirmed that the memory in the jar belonged to Julian, though it was from his former name.

Eli explained that the family had left the city because of a threat. He said the memory had been sealed to protect Julian from being found. Hearing this, Julian believed that his childhood had not been erased by accident.
