A car pulled up outside Walter Reed's house. Tom got out, walked to the door, and came inside while the crew was still working on the patient.
When Tom saw Walter on the stretcher, he froze. Walter was his father, and Tom understood at once that the ambulance he had blocked on the road had been on its way to this emergency.
He was shocked, and any argument he might have made vanished right away. Maya recognized him as the driver from the road, and the room grew tense, but the crew kept their attention on Walter's care.
