Maya tried to shape the dream the way she had before, but this time it would not obey her fully. Some objects and places shifted on their own, without her choosing it. She understood that the dream was no longer under her control.
The people in the dream began to speak to her in cold, repeated ways. Instead of comfort, the dream showed her failure, debt, and loneliness. Maya became afraid, because it was now turning her own fears against her.
She tried to wake up, but it was not easy. Every time she thought she had made it back, she found another dream layer or a false scene. After that, she started to lose confidence that she could tell the two worlds apart.
Then she began to hear warnings from Eli and her mother even while she was still inside the dream. She understood that the pills and all the repeated sleeping were part of the problem. By then, she was panicking, because the nightmare felt endless.
