Mina told Mrs. Alvarez about the app and showed it working with Leo. Mrs. Alvarez was curious, so she agreed to let Mina test it on her cat, Miso. Since Miso was in Mrs. Alvarez’s apartment, they moved the test there.
When Mina used the app on Miso, the cat’s message was polite but clear: there was too much dust, and there were not enough soft places to sleep. Mrs. Alvarez stared in shock, because that complaint fit Miso’s habits exactly. Mina also learned something important. The app could translate more than just Leo.
Then Pixel, a black cat from another apartment, came over after hearing the sounds. His translation was funny and blunt. He wanted to know which human was responsible for the loud noise in the hallway. Mina and Mrs. Alvarez began to see that the cats were noticing building problems that people had been ignoring.
After that, more cats started to gather, because the app seemed to let them finally be understood. Mina could see that they were curious, impatient, and ready to argue with each other through the translations. She began to worry that the app might lead to a much bigger problem than she had planned.
